What does your business do?
My business provides Hair Extensions, Installations, and Maintenance,
as well as Non-Invasive Body Contouring Services
When and why did you start the biz?
I started my business back in May of 2014. Originally I was only
providing Cosmetology services. I was mobile and had a area at home I
would work from. Three years later I was finally able to open my own
Beauty Suite. Working as a Cosmetologist was always something I wanted
to be right out of High School. But, instead I took another route and
became a Medical Assistant, listening to the advice of my family.
After working in the industry for over a decade, I realized I was not
fulfilled and very underappreciated and decided to take a leap of
faith, and pursue my dreams.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
Currently I am renting a small space ( under 100 square feet ) in a
Professional Building. I'm located on the third floor and the building
is quite nice. My particular suite is large enough to house me and a
client, a stylist chair, massage table and vibration plates. Depending
on the service the client is having done, determines what side of the
suite I will be working on. I do have nice divider I put up to either
conceal the table or chair depending on the client. I painted my suite
pink and purple with feminine decor. For example I 3d artwork of rose
petals and sayings as well as pink heart decorative lights.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part of running my business is finding new clients. The
constant marketing and advertising that need to be done in order to
find those new clients can get expensive. My budget isn't always ready
to pay the costs either. So just figuring out which avenues of
advertising work best, and producing great content of my own has to be
the hardest for me at this point.
What's the most fun part?
The best part about my job is that it truly does not feel like work. I
found something that I am passionate about and I love going to work.
Its never a dull day. I'm either meeting new people or having a great
conversation with a regular client. And to get paid to make other women
happy and more confident about themselves is just a plus. It feels
Anything you would have done differently?
If I had a chance to do something differently, I definitely would have
developed a business plan first, saved more money, had better credit,
and an a real accountant. I feel like I am trying to do all that now.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
Whats next on the horizon for my business is that I hope to be able to
team up with some local businesses in my community to see how we can
help each other. Maybe sponsor an event or two. Right now I work with
Charlotte's Breast Cancer Survivors. It is a Non-Profit and I provide
free services for some of the women who express an interest in it.
I want to be known in my community.
What advice do you have for others?
I would say go for it. If your heart is in it and you are passionate
about it, I believe where there is a will there is a way. Don't let
other people discourage you. And don't give up. It may take you a
couple years to really see a nice profit from it or maybe not, but
don't let that discourage you. Just develop a business plan first and
be ready to dedicate your time and effort.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
Idea Cafe has been great for me. As far as tips for writing a business
plan. I have gotten a lot of inspiration to develop new marketing
strategies. They have forums that you can join in and ask questions or
just read about other business owner's experiences. And lets not forget
about the Grants page. I don't know who wouldn't want free money, but
I check back often.

Do any of these pets help with your biz?
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?

realized that life was too short to work on someone's dream, when I
have dreams of my own
