What does your business do?
We publishing Christian fiction and nonfiction books, and we also have a children's book division offering picture books and upcoming chapter books for children of all ages.
When and why did you start the biz?
I started the business with my mother in partnership with our parent company, Peace in the Storm Publishing, to provide a service for writers desiring to put their literary work in a book, and to offer a place for children's book writers to share their creativity specifically for children.

What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest pat of running the business is trying to help our authors understand the importance of marketing and promoting their titles. Although we do promotions, it is from the perspective of a publisher, and so cannot tell the story the way the author can.
What's the most fun part?
The most fun part is seeing and holding the final copy of the book in my hands and the joy the author has when their book is finally available to the public for purchase.
Anything you would have done differently?
The one thing that I know I would do differently is to give myself a little more research time before starting the business. Although lessons were learned, I know now that they could have been avoided had I known certain things at that time.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
The next thing on the horizon for our business is to find a way to animate our children's books. I have one author that has expressed an interest in sharing the book that way other than audibly.
What advice do you have for others?
Research and research some more. Ask questions of others that may be in the business as well. I find that when someone is successful at whatever it is they do, they do not mind sharing do's and don'ts with others. Pay attention to trends and tweak your business accordingly if it is a way to help make your business more profitable.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
The real advice that Idea Café shares about running a business, and especially finances, has been very helpful. I am of the mind that, although we have the vision for our businesses, getting from the idea to reality takes more work than we anticipate and so should take more time to plan out. Learning how to use a budget to accomplish what is needed for the business is necessary, just as important as starting a business.
