What does your business do?
hand makes all things tie dye and original unique healing crystal
jewelry. I travel state to state and set up booths at festivals,
fairs, street fair and carnivals and sell my products. I also have
my products in 2 local stores now and will hopefully be in more by
the end of 2019. I sell online on facebook.
When and why did you start the biz?
I use to do it just for the fun with the kids, but then the kids
grew up and moved away and I was still doing it! I had a rummage
sale because the tie dye's were starting to stack up, a lady
stopped by says "you should be selling these". I responded with
"I'am" she laughed and said "no, for real, have you never seen an
arts and craft fair?" and this is how Hippie Chic's was born. I
have been in business "for Real" going on 3 years. I have been
doing my craft for 30 years. I LOVE what I do and could not
imagine doing anything else!
How Many People are in your Company?
just me for now
Where's your office?
laughing..It is all over my house. I use the kitchen to create the
spare bedroom for storage, the bathroom to rinse and wash the living
room has turned into a jewelry making station and I even use my deck
to cure the tie dyes.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part is getting enough inventory made. I always seem
to go to the next show thinking I have enough and pow Im sold out
again. so I come home work my fingers to the bone create, create,
create do it all again. but, I like a challenge and I love what I
do so i get frustrated when I can not give the people what they
What's the most fun part?
The very best part of this entire thing is watching the look on my
customers face when they find the perfect tie dye shirt or that one
piece of jewelry that they just can not live without! That is The
very best pat!
Anything you would have done differently?
I would have done a bit more research into wholesale products that I
needed to create my items. I ended up losing money because I was
paying to much for the supplies.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
I live in wisconsin and my show season is over in October and does
not start again until the end of May. so I would like to follow the
show circuit down south so I can continue to sell my stuff year
What advice do you have for others?
If you have an idea go for it! do your research but in the end do not
let your fears get in the way of you goals and happiness! you never
know until you try. don't be afraid to ask for help! if someone has
owned a business and they are willing to give you advice take it!
Don't let small obsticles get in your way! find away around it or
over it or hey under it.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
Grant options, advertising ideas, reading the blogs looking at the
advertisements and seeing if any of that will be useful to me in my
School (where, still in school, degree)?
Prior jobs or business?
I tried alot of different jobs! debt collection, making cheese, car
sales, restaurant manager.
What are your pets' names?
Do any of these pets help with your biz?
oh he thinks he is helping but he is not lol
Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
I was so unhappy at my job as a debt collector and all the other jobs
I did were not the answer after that lady at the rummage sale told me
I could make money doing what I loved I got busy being my own boss.
Anyone you publicly want to thank?
my Mom and Dad for supporting the starving artist in my time of need!
