What does your business do?
Products are designed and catered to Left-Handed people with a focus on
Primary School-Aged Children.
When and why did you start the biz?
I started this business with children in mind because I struggled in
school with scissors, notebooks and other school items. Schools don't
carry the proper tools to teach Left-Handed children. I want them to
have access to the proper tools that will help them to prepare and
succeed in the future. Everything to the Left opened October, 2018.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
My company is located in the suburbs of Detroit in a small Mall. I
have a 10 x 4 Kiosk that has 10 small storage drawer to hold excess
merchandise. The Kiosk has four glass shelves to display merchandise.
Although the Kiosk has lights at the top to enhance the merchandise, it
sometimes feel as though things are bunched together. Everything to
the Left has signage with lettering in Red to make the sign more
visible to the eye when shoppers are passing. The Kiosk sits outside
of two major stores where there is heavy foot traffic.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part of running my business is Marketing. Because I have
a small budget to work with, I tend to do all my printing of flyers in
my home. With a substantial budget it would enable me to do
professional looking printing.
What's the most fun part?
The most fun part is seeing the customer's faces when they see the
products for the first time and when I talk to customers and hear all
the Left-hand stories.
Anything you would have done differently?
I don't think I would have done anything differently, but I do suggest
that anyone starting a business for the first time to connect with a
Mentor. That was the best decision I could've made.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
What's next..... is expansion and move to a brick and mortar store
where Everything to the Left can spread out and show more items.
What advice do you have for others?
Be patient, have faith and don't give up. There will be rough days and
months but don't give up. Do not sell yourself short. Know that you
have to put a lot of hard work into your business. There will be days
and nights you will be tired, but because it is your business no one is
going to put into it the way you do.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
I read the tips from other small businesses to get ideas for my
business. I look for funding through the Grant Section of Idea Cafe.
In addition to these things, I reviewed other small businesses Business
Plans, Mission and Visions which help me to devise one for Everything
to the Left.

Is there any one person or event in your life that led
you to go into business for yourself?
After working for many organizations for years and my position
eliminated, I decided I would take a chance of being my own boss and
open a store; I had been running and maintaining businesses I had been
working for many years.
