What does your business do?
We create logistics software. We offer modules for freight forwarding, trucking,
warehousing, 3PL, drayage, transload, transportation management, import, export,
centralized exams, and container freight stations.
When and why did you start the biz?
We started the business because we saw an opportunity to improve the software
available to logistics service providers. Our mission was to help goods move
around the world more easily. We started in January of 1999.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
We have an office with open floor space as well as private offices. The entire office
is surrounded by windows as the building is all glass. We have a great, big, white
conference table in the conference room which also has a big flat screen for
presentations. Although we are located in a city, the plot next door is undeveloped
and that landowner has cows that we can watch feeding on the grass.
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
The toughest part is helping our customers understand their software
requirements. Usually, they submit software requirements for us to build around.
However, the requirements they submit are often incomplete. As a result, we
dedicate experts on our team to help clients comprehensively understand their
software requirements so that the project plan is organized and set up for success
from the very beginning.
What's the most fun part?
The most fun part is seeing these great big trucks, warehouses, and ports running
on our software. Driving by a truck or container and knowing that our software is
helping that container get goods to people is very satisfying.
Anything you would have done differently?
If there was one thing I would do differently, it's take more time to relax when we
were starting the business.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
We have great things on the horizon. Our business is expanding. We recently
deployed our software at a leading-edge warehouse operation on the west coast
that handles 1,000,000 tons of perishable product annually. We are helping lots of
companies who need a combination of trucking software, warehouse software,
yard management software and import/export or freight forwarding software.
There aren't any other software companies that can offer all that in one package so
we're doing really well with those types of companies.
What advice do you have for others?
Be loving to yourself, forgive yourself, focus on what you're learning, be patient,
stick with it.
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
I love reading about other people's experiences and finding inspiration in their
stories. I often learn tips about how to better manage my business and life.
School (where, still in school, degree)?
University of Miami - Masters in Computer Science
