What does your business do?
Retail angel themed products of clothing and jewelry and a percentage
of the proceeds go to the St. Michael Armored Angel Relief fund for
monetary grants for domestic violence victims.
When and why did you start the biz?
I was a victim myself and suffered financial abuse, I want to be able
to help other women get back on their fee financially and to help
keep them from going back to an abuser because of financial reasons.
How Many People are in your Company?
Where's your office?
My home to cut down on office costs. More will go to victims
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
Getting the word out and paying for advertising
What's the most fun part?
Anything you would have done differently?
No. If I hadn't became the "Armored Angel of Illinois" the concept
would be harder for people to grasp being that it would be boring.
My "character" type and my concept "Fighting for Women" is a great
way to introduce this fund.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
Establishing a clothing label for gowns and coats and casual wear to
enter into fashion shows. Also future concerts with our merchandise
there to purchase on hand to raise funds ofr this very important
What advice do you have for others?
Make it unique to you. Different is never boring and always come up
with a quote, slogan or business tagline to follow your business name
and business concept. My quote is:
"Domestic Violence Victims can and do many times surpass the
expectations of their peers" -Armored Angel of Illinois
How do you use Idea Cafe to help your biz?
I browse to see what I want to learn about. There's always something
new to learn in business. From a business owner point of view, My
little secret is that when I get an order I feel so awesome! I feel
very proud of myself that I have gotten the order and that I have
made that customer happy. People purchase things to bring them
happiness and when they buy something from me I've made them happy
plus helping victims is extremely important in giving back.
School (where, still in school, degree)?
GED, some college, I'm not a school person but love to learn new things, "Never stop learning"
Prior jobs or business?
Cap Pac Intl, Inc. was a product of a relative that I took over
and redesigned and marketed. It was a dust free baseball cap
system and my slogan or tagline for it was "The New Generation of
Cap Storage"...I got it into 26 store locations and in the 6th
year in business it was copied by all of the major low cost
catalogs in the country, Harriet Carter, Carol Wright Gifts,
Lillian Vernon, Walter Drake. You name it, they copied it and
sold it. So this product went everywhere across the United States
all from my little home office and my marketing strategy. the
product "Had its run" as they say and they even invented a few
spin off products like vinyl zippered newspaper cases and clear
vinyl dvd cases for storage purposes but they didn't catch on like
the "Cap Pac' product. I went against what everyone said about
the product, I knew people would buy it and they did. Don't
always listen to the nay say'ers. Go by your gut and your
intuition because most of the time, you're right.
