4 Environmentally-Friendly Ways Your Business Can Protect People from COVID-19

When it comes to the health of your staff and customers, protecting those in your business from catching or spreading COVID-19 is essential. Taking these precautions can have a positive impact on your reputation and the efficiency of your company. Another area that can grab people’s attention is how eco-friendly and sustainable your business is. Unfortunately, keeping the people in your store safe from COVID-19 and other diseases can have a negative impact on the environment when it is not carried out correctly. We are all aware of how important it is to look after our planet and others, so here are 4 environmentally-friendly ways your business can protect people from COVID-19.

Hand Sanitizing Stations

The importance of thoroughly washing our hands has become even more clear since the pandemic. However, if customers don’t have access to toilets in your business, the toilets are small, or you want to cut down the amount of water used, then finding an alternative is essential. This is why you should have hand sanitizing stations near the entrance/exits of your store. Hand sanitizing stations will allow your customers and members of staff to keep their hands clean from the minute they enter the building.

Install Sneeze Guards

If you own a business in hospitality, such as a restaurant, sneeze guards must become part of your safety and sanitization protocols. These will help reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses between tables and other customers. They are reusable, making them an eco-friendly addition to slow the spread of any disease in your business. As they are made from plastic, they can be cleaned and wiped down on a regular basis, which will reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses in your store even further.

Use Eco-Friendly Products

Keeping the store clean and disease free will require you to purchase a number of cleaning products and various PPE (personal protective equipment). In order to protect the environment, you should look into purchasing eco-friendly products for your store. Eco-friendly cleaning products are non-toxic, safe, biodegradable and will be made with sustainable packaging. They lessen water pollution, while tackling climate change. Most PPE can’t be reused, so to reduce levels of harmful waste you produce, you should look for biodegradable options.

Encourage Reusable PPE

As mentioned previously, most PPE will need to be disposed of after one use. This is to reduce the spread of pathogens that cause disease or due to the material of the PPE you are using (e.g., it can’t be washed or disinfected). To help reduce the amount of PPE waste, you should encourage your employees to wear reusable PPE, such as a wipeable face shield or a washable face mask. These can be wiped down or washed regularly and reused, while protecting themselves and others from spreading harmful germs.

Enforcing these eco-friendly methods and techniques to avoid disease transmission is essential. As well as protecting the health of your employees and customers, you will also be reducing the negative impact you have on the planet. This is something everyone will be thankful for.
