About Our Honorary Guest Judge Dr. Lynn Cates of The Dr. Spock CompanyFor over two decades, before joining The Dr. Spock Company in January, 2000, Dr. Cates specialized in pediatric infectious diseases and childhood immunizations. Her career has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children. She joined The Dr. Spock Company to provide parents with responsible expert information to help them raise their children to be healthy in all regards -- physically, mentally, emotionally, and to be prepared to function well in society . Dr. Cates is the immediate past-president of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society; has served on Institute of Medicine committees on vaccine safety and development; and was listed in Best Doctors in America. She wasalso president of the Women Faculty at the School of Medicine at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. From 1997 through 1999, she went on leave from the Case Western Reserve University to work on health policy in Washington, D.C., as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow. She also served as a Senior Medical Advisor in the Department of Health and Human Services. In Washington, she worked on health policy relating to children's health insurance, immunizations, and the public health aspects of tobacco legislation. In February 2000, Dr. Cates was elected to the Steering Group of the eHealth Ethics Initiative, which created and launched the eHealth Code of Ethics in May 2000. This Code provides an ethical framework for providing health information and services over the Internet. She also serves on the Think Tank for KidsHealth 2020, a project to improve children's health in a localized region in Cleveland, Ohio.
