Purchase Order Form

One of the universal workhorse documents of business, the purchase order states the commitment of what will be accepted and paid for. Plus, it's the initiator of getting "accounts payable" on the balance sheet, so any business can know how much money will have to be going out in any given timeframe.

If you think issuing a purchase order is too much bother, consider the alternative of spending hours arguing with vendors over what you said you'd buy, at what price, and under what conditions. Not to mention the added expense, hassle, and frustration of getting lawyers involved to help the arguing parties settle the disputes that grew out of too-vaguely defined agreements.

So, make it easy on yourself and everyone else -- just issue a purchase order stating what you will buy, what the cost will be, and what deadline or other condition will be accepted.

A purchase order is a very quick form, but it can save you countless headaches and mucho dollars! And if you're keeping your books via a computerized accounting program (who isn't?), the program probably features a PO form ready to use. If not, feel free to use ours!
