Marilyn:

The best way to get a name for your chocolate chip company is to offer an incentive. A bag of the chocolate chips for the best name. Try chocolate chippery. "Marilyn's Chocolate Chippery"
I didn't invent chocolate chippery I read it somewhere, but because I am an expert chocolate chip taster I remembered the name.

Send me a few of your morsels and I'll come up with more ideas; some may even be original.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your suggestion.....I want a deliriously great name...Trust me I have gone the route of 'normal names'....My cookie is a very high end decadent cookie which made its way to the Juno's....I am finishing my business plan and the name should say it all...so that is what I am looking for....

Pinnacle Chocolate chips.

Aurora borealis chocolate chips

Viagra inspired Chocolate chips

Come on one of the above should be worthy of a few samples. If not a few cokies how about some broken ones? They are not for me. They are for my sick friend a little orphan child who can't get to the cookie store and no one to do the baking.

Posted by TOM ROSE on 09:34:38 4/13/2004
Marilyn:

Do you really think a picture will be a fitting substitute for the real thing? I use recycled paper in my printer and there is no way of knowing where the paper has been. You have received the finest name suggestions that have ever been offered on the net. I believe that actual "real time" cookies are in order. I believe a vote is in order. All those in favor of a real cookie say aye those that want a picture of a cookie cackel like a chicken. The ayes have it. Marilyn if you want a recount you will have to poll the cackeling chads.

Posted by Vickie on 09:28:01 4/19/2004
Hey, Marilyn,

I LOVE chocolate chip cookies. They are my favorite sweet
treat! So, let's see, you want an upscale name for your
cookies...

Too bad I couldn't sink my teeth into a sample -- but I'll
pretend and see what I can create

Sweet Sin Cookies
Chocolat Desir Cookies (French for chocolate desire)
Sweet Pleasures Cookies
[I seem to be going with a whole sensual slant here ]

Crystal Chocolate Chip Cookies (alliteration)
Decadence

OK, I'll think some more and go buy some cookies and do
more name research. I'll be back after I get back from the
bakery!

Keep us posted on what you decide.

18. "Cookie Names"
Posted by Coach Karen on 11:55:19 5/12/2004
Hi Marilyn:

I am have a couple of questions for you before leading you a stray with some names.

I am a Business Success Coach, and have in the past helped name numerous businesses. Most of the time asking for suggestions like this are not going to get you what you want.

Actually Tom has an exceptional point - without being able to taste, see, and feel your product it is really impossible to provide you with the appropriate feedback.

My questions:

1. Are your future plans going to stick with one kind of product? i.e. Chocolate chip cookies

2. When you say you are going for a high-end sales distribution - Is this because the cookie you have developed is one that can only be sold this way? Or is it because you feel the cookie is so good that it deserves to be sold this way?

3. The name is it just for the cookie - or is this for your business?

My suggestion is this - if the name is only for this particular cookie - then get a group of people together that you respect their opinions and have them taste your cookie and write down what their feelings are about how the cookie tastes; what kinds of pictures does it bring to mind; any kind of descriptive adjective of the taste and feelings they get when they eat, feel, handle the cookie.

Make sure that they write down all their answers, and not share them out loud. If they share them out loud it could influence others opinions.

Then go through the answers, and see if you can get a correlation of what kind of vision your cookie emulates. You can also use a variety of synonyms for the words people write down.

This was how Grandma Cookies product line was established. Lot's of family members kept saying the cookies tasted "just like Grandma's".

If the name is for your business - then I would encourge you to not ask for ideas like this, and especially limit the Company Name to just one product.

With the type of business that you are forming, the business name is very important so that when the time comes to go national or global you want to be able to create a true BRAND Name for your Company.

Best of Luck, if you would like to contact me directly to discuss this further, feel free to email me.

Marilyn,

How about "24K Chocolate Chip Cookies" - Worth Their Weight in Gold!

The packaging can be a luscious mocha color with gold writing.

And you can work with a jeweler to make a line of Gold Chocolate chip Jewelry and charms to sell as well!

Yours in Success,

21. "Name boycot"
Posted by TOM ROSE on 19:34:02 5/17/2004
I could feel the emotion, the ground swell of the grass roots people coming together for a bag of cookies. Marilyn was about to cave. Then people kept providing name suggestions. Why pay a consultant or give away cookies if people are willing to provide freebie mame suggestions?

Time to take a stand for the for the chocolate chip. I say boycot the chocolate chip name posting until samples of the cookie are provided to the name suggesting people.

I am so grateful for all of you and your 'cookie company names'.........
I wish I could send everyone cookies, but how do I do it???
I am going forward with my name....Marilyn Dale's Cookies.......made with love.
However I can use all the above to describe the product and they all describe the taste anyway....I am getting my website up and running within the next month and am working with a facility to produce large amounts...I shall work with corporate clients and am so excited...Yikes!
If anyone is in Canada let me know and get ready to check out my site soon.
Happy Summer, Marilyn

Marilyn,

Thank you for checking in with us! Of course, we'd all love
cookies and we've had fun hinting for you to send us some.
But since that's logistically impossible (and would eat into
your profits! ), we will settle for your website address
when you take it out of the oven!

Be sure to come back and let us know your Web address, so
we can get a "taste" for your cookies and packaging.

I'm glad you were able to decide on a good name.

Best of Biz,
