I have been looking for a homebased business.Recently i filled out a questioner for Herbalife. I have always been very skeptical about all internet businesses. They offer four different packages ranging in price from $199.00-$3900.00. The money is not a problem, but i would like some input from someone that has tried this before or has dealt with herbalife.

I NEVER PAY SOMEONE TO WORK FOR THEM
if the product is good and is easy to sell they will pay you

While it's not necessarily true that you should never pay for a job, make sure you're getting your money's worth.

Herbalife is not a "job" per se, but more of a business and you would certainly ALWAYS pay money to start a business.

Just make sure you're going in with a clear head. Most MLM opportunities require an extensive network of people -- whether family, friends or other. You'll also work your tail off and get little return at first.

Remember one thing: The people making huge incomes per month at Herbalife got started in the very beginning. The opportunity to make a killing at this point is very slim.

As they say, "don't quit your day job!"

I just want to put my 2 cents in. If you are at all familiar with Herbalife (more than likely you are not unless you've sold it) then you would realize that it's not as bad as you all make it out to be. I am not a distributor but a good friend of mine is. She is making very good money from this. She is her own walking advertisment. She used the products and lost a lot of weight. Made it very easy for her to sell.

Yes you do pay upfront money but you do get a website already designed for you.

I just wanted to note that just because a so called MLM is not right for one person does not mean it is wrong for everyone else.

Regardless of what your business is you first must pick something you will enjoy and be good at. If it is a MLM than so be it.

You all say its a scam and stay away from these types of businesses. How do you know it is a scam? Did you pay the upfront money for this company?

I was a distributor for 2 years, I paid the initial $3900 for the products so I could get the 50% off and start the marketing for people underneathe me. I did not make any money in it. But I am not the type of person to do MLM it's not for me. I figured that out the hard way. I was a sucker for something that I didn't look into. Not saying that Herbalife is bad because it's not it just wasn't for me. And in an odd way I am thankful for it because otherwise I wouldn't have started my own business and wouldn't have had any idea where to start. Because I had tried to do the herbalife for so long I learned alot of things, so I am thankful for that.

My advice: DO WHAT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT!
Most of the people who did do Herbalife and are successful are those that lost weight on it and felt passionate about the products. You can't fool people into thinking you really like something. You have to sound real about why you are promoting your products.

Herbalife says that you can do it making your own hours. GUESS again! Herbalife is a 24-7 business, trust me. The more I got into it the more I realized I couldn't take a break because it was pretty demanding if you wanted to make good money on it.

On the other hand if you are looking for something just to make a little extra money and don't want to come up with something yourself, just becoming a distributor, and selling the products may work for you.

Hope this helps!

I don't know if Herbalife is a "scam" per se, however many red flags have been raised for me. It's touted to be a "work your own hours", however I hightly doubt this. I have a very energetic, made-for-business mentor (female) and she works her tail off. This business is as someone put it "24/7". When you become involved you quickly find out that you're "on call". You are told to be there for your customers, and for your downline.

There are Focus Groups (conference calls consisting of usually 10 people on the phone from all over the country), and the verbiage used in these sessions are just about identical to those who are trying to blow the whistle on this company. Everyone is given the "floor" to give their weekly account of Personal Development and what they did to expand their business.

My mentor is no longer contacting me, though I've had much difficulty understanding the rudiments of the business (though she did call me often in the beginning) and still need to complete the training (though I'm 99% sure I'm getting out). She thinks I'm not as motivated as I should be (I've called her twice to try and finish off the training, but she hasn't returned either call).

The coup de grace in all this is the fact (and I've seen this mentioned in the Focus Groups) is that if and when you get retail customers (those who buy the products), there will be times when things go smoothly, but watch out when things go very bumpy. There will be those who likely will be happy with the product, and then there will be a handful who will wind up having health difficulties, of which the onus is on the distributor to contact Distributor Relations and troubleshoot by altering the program and finding out the cause, which takes time.

One female distributor in this Focus group stated she has about 5 customers who have varying problems, and now she has to be a problemsolver. I believe far more time is needed than the "2 hours per night" to properly take care of the customers. After the last Focus session, one of the distributors was frantic in speaking with the mentor that one of HER distributors was thinking of quitting because of difficulties with her customer who had gotten extremely ill (that customer is okay now).

This kind of revelation (I've used the product and have lost weight and had no problems) leads me to believe that I am in for lots of problems later on, and any perceived "fantastic" income won't warrant the responsibility I'll have to face if customers do indeed incur health problems. Thankfully I opted for the Success Builder and only have 6 boxes of inventory on hand.

My mom started selling Herbalife a couple months ago, and she is making great money with it right now. It really took off in our area - not many people seem to have used it in the past. What has surprised both of us is the number of people willing to pay for the full packages - we figured that people would tend to skimp when they bought stuff, but it's been just the opposite. She looks great too - taken a bunch of weight off. There have been a few difficulties dealing with the company on a few issues, but she seems to be able to straighten out any questions that arise. Overall, the response has been great.

Meanwhile, in a lawsuit that's been quietly moving through Arizona's Superior Court, former Herbalife distributor Daniel Fallow of Sandpoint, Idaho charges that Herbalife arbitrarily withholds payment to distributors and marks up its products over seven times the cost of manufacturing.

24. "Give a careful chance to MLM"
Posted by Carlos on 21:35:54 6/29/2002
I haven't worked with Herbalife, but I can give you some hints hints about MLMs:
-Not all MLMs are scams, just be aware about companies that don't disclosure their products or have confusing "compensation" arrangements.

-For a MLM to be effective, you need to be in the first 100,000 persons to enter. After that mark, it starts to be difficult to obtain profits.

-With the Internet and many lead generation companies, you do not depend solely on huge network of family members, friends, etc.

-EVERY BUSINESS REQUIRES TO SPEND MONEY. No matter if it is retailing, consulting, or MLM, you will have to pull $$$ out from your pocket...it becomes a investment when you have real chances to obtain profits.

I am a safety consultant (http://www.loggospr.com and ALSO a rookie MLM distributor with Legacy (http://www.mylegacyforlife.net/cperez). What my experience has shown me? That the $300 I "spent" in the MLM business had been the greatest INVESTMENT I had made in the past six years. Not only I am obtaining profits from the MLM (I'm just $30 below break even after just one month), but the training provided by the MLM has helped me to obtain bigger and better consulting contracts.

My opinion on Herbalife and other MLMs: as in any other business, invest with caution and work with passion.

25. "feedback"
Posted by peter on 05:22:19 6/30/2002
I have not been and am not involved in MLM myself. However several years ago I did own a company which sold design & print services to a very similar company to Herbalife ( it was Enrich). As a result of doing this work I did meet a lot of their distributors and the company directors and some of their founders, so know a fair bit about how such companies work without actually being involved in selling their products. Without being a distributor for them or any similar network marketing company, and having sold the business I owned which was supplying Enrich with print type services several years ago, think I can give some impartial feedback.

Personally I found Enrich completely fascinating from a business point of view and learnt quite a lot of business techniques from them. It was the first time I had ever heard of MLM and I would previously have been pretty sceptical of anything like it.

I couldnt help being impressed with the quality of their directors, they were incredibly passionate about their business. It was a joy to work with such hardworking, humerous, gregarious, business and creatively minded people. It made a pretty pleasant change from most of my other rather dull corporate clents who tended to lack enthusiasm for their business, and Enrich was certainly the company I most liked doing work for at the time.

Enrich payed very well for any outside services they comissioned and expected the very best from their supliers, which they always recieved. They always payed their bills immediately (before expected even, which as you know is very unusual in business!), and never ever tried to skimp on costs to get an inferior service be it in property, print or design. They tended to prefer to pay more for the very best money could buy, whatever service was being supplied to them.

I met a few of their distributors and some of them I know for a fact were genuinely making more money in a year than most people will earn in ten, twenty or thirty years. Equally Im sure many of them didnt make anything.

Personally I think it gets down to the type of personality; some people have a rare ability to be able to sell that way and some just dont. Personally I think that less than one in a several hundred people has the unique type of personality to be able sell sucessfully in network marketing, and if they try to they are just a square peg in a round hole and they find out pretty quickly. The star sales performers for these companies are realy quite extraordinary people though. Very few people have that ability, I know I couldnt sell that way because I wouldnt be any good at it, as its just not me. However I do have complete respect for those people that can work succesfully that way.

Hi Tim. Herbalife is indeed a legit company.

Though I don't think the company itself would approve of some it's distributors practices.
I was only with Herbalife about 3 months before I knew this wasn't for me, besides the fact it was draining me dry. What your sponsors, or at least mine, didn't tell me up front were all the other expenses that I would incur, besides my monthly purchase requirements. Ex-2 phone lines, fax, credit card machine, and the list goes on.

They make the company sound so great in the beginning and make you think you will be right up there with the top earners. That may very well be true, but not without cold calling family, friends, distributing hundreds of flyers, putting up signs and calling everyone from A to Z(and maybe getting 1 lead or so) And I don't like hassling my family and friends. This was a big turn off for me.
Oh and the endless seminars(just so you feel committed), tapes, and books!
I can say the products we tried did work, but for that kind of money, if I need those products again, I'll certainly go elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Hello all,

I was involved in some MLM companies and most of the time I don't their approach. And yes, MLM is not for everyone although we can learn how to be a networker, buat most people are not comfortable doing it.

You should look at MLM as a business opportunity and decide whether it's suitable for you or not, just look before you leap. Keeping your current job or source of income and try MLM as your part time job is a wise decision.

Yes you need commitment but first you should be sure about what you're doing, right?

Well, if you want to exchange ideas just drop me an email at eka_ys@yahoo.com
It's always a pleasure to meet new people and opportunity.

Hi, I thought I might add my 2 cents about this subject. I am an Herbalife Distributor and like most I do agree that it can be expensive going the way the sponsors want you to. But I have learned that there are inexpensive ways about doing it also. First of all, I truely believe that you need to like their products, which I love them. That goes for any business you might inquire about. Second, if you do a lot of researching, there are places where you can get almost free and free websites to promote the business. There are a few companies that don't have a monthly expense to be able to accept credit cards. The list goes on.
There is going to be an expense for any business that you look into. That's just part of it. You just have to be very careful to not be led into something you aren't sure about until you have done your researching.
I am only a distributor at the time being and will stay that way until I make enough profit to move up. If I never do then I can be thankful that I took my time and didn't pay out a lot before it was too late. And as everyone has said, it may not be the company that's bad. It could just be that MLM is not for that person.
If you would like to discuss anymore about Herbalife, feel free to email me at slk5872@aol.com.
Good luck.
Samantha
