I have a Website that is for moms that stay home or would like to. I give them ideas about businesses they can start and a little encouragement.

Right now I am an affiliate with the Lesko program, but I'm considering dropping the program. I don't want to mislead any of my moms by encouraging them to spend money on his books if they have no actual value.

Do any of you have personal experience with the Lesko books? If so, was it positive or negative.

Thanks so much,
Sher

Most people that I have talked to sit on the fence when it comes to Lesko's books. Yes, there is a wealth of information in the book but most of it is dependent on where you live (ie: which programs are available in which states). People will generally have better results doing a little research locally instead of buying a book that has a large number of programs in which they don't qualify for.

Stay away from the seminars though. The general consensus is that it is a waste of time and they push their consulting services and the book.

Do a quick google using the search terms david+lesko+scam and see what comes up. It might help in your decision.

Hope this helps,

Chris

I will do that. I feel a responsibility to my moms not to steer them in the wrong direction. I try to be careful which affiliates I use, but sometimes something gets past me.

I just found out one of the sites I had a link to as an affiliate was merely one of those scams that litter the internet. One of my moms paid $25.00 thinking she was going to get some extra cash in opinion surveys and instead she got nothing more than a list of where she could apply. I felt terrible about it and removed the offender from my site right away.

I always appreciate any help I can get in trying to investigate these places.

Thanks again!

Ok, I wanted to let folks know that Lesko's book that he hawks on late night TV is a book that I would tell people to steer away from. Altho there is alot of information in the book it is not kept current state by state. How do I know this, well, my friend bought the book so that several people could use the book and split the cost. All they did was split the cost and spin their wheels. Grants listed were available from the local libraries reference center and others had already expired. Certain grants have a time deadline date. They require that apps or letters are received before a stated date and sometimes this info is lacking in the book. Other grants are for a select group of people with a VERY select requirements, ie., live in the state of, are female, wanting to further regelious education in this sect(meht;baptist;lutherian.etc),and the stipulations go on & on depending on which grant you are looking at. So save your money and do your reseach at the library, talk to your bankers, and bite the bullet and be ready for investing your own money along with loans.

I can honestly say that the information in these books is accurate. I used the information to help my mom get a brand new home free. The only stipulation is that either she or another family member has to live in it for 5 years. If this doesn't happen then she will have to pay for it on a prorated basis (value of home divided by 5yrs). She's been in it now for 3 years and loves it. By the way, it came with all appliances, central heat and air. Now for the kicker, you don't need to buy Lesko's books. He takes all of his information from the "Federal Catalog of Domestic Assistance" which is available at most public libraries. It's a reference book which can't be checked out. Hopes this helps.

The Catalog of Federal Assistance can be found online at www.cfda.gov if you can read through everything, have at it. Many of the programs the federal government has do not go directly to individuals, they are meant to go to local organizations that have programs the distribute the funds.
