"Medical Billing and Bookkeeping Business"

I have a friend who is just starting a massage business and wants me to do her books and her medical billing. Does anyone have any ideas as to how or how much I should bill her.

Thanks!

There area lot of things to consider - your experience in both areas, the amount of time you will spend per job, and what the going salary is for both positions in your area to name a few. As this is your friend, do you want to give him/her a break in what you will charge...another thing to consider...?

I know that the annual salary range for a medical biller in Ann Arbor, Michigan is 30-40K depending on experience. A 40 hour week pay is ~ $19.00 per hour (highest range). A bookeeper in the same area can expect to make 25-35K per year. A 40 hour week pay is ~$17.00 per hour (highest range). The average of the two jobs is ~ $18.00 per hour.

I'd definitly bill her on an hourly basis while she is still in the early stages of her business. Enquire into the hourly rate for the same type of role within your community.

From that point you can decide to give her a discounted "mates rates" or charge as normal. Perhaps you could start on a lower rate with a trial period of 3 months to be reviewed at that point. If her cashflow is minimal it will give her a little extra to invest back into the business which maybe she can lump sum you the difference when her profit starts picking up.

Or you could look at getting paid in massages.
