"new smoke shop opening, need ideas"

Hi everyone, My name is Travis and I am opening up a smokeshop with some family members. The smokeshop is called Smokers Outlet and there is 15 locations. The advantages are that we are well known because we have so many locations, and the franchise is ran almost perfect because they have been open for over 15 years. Also, we have a cigar lounge in our store. The problem that I have is that there is a lot of competition around this new location. There are 3 smoke shops in about a 3 mile radius sarrounding my location. There is also gas stations that sell cheaper ciggarettes than us(by the pack only, we sell cheaper cartons). Please can you recommend any help? Wheather its marketing strategies, deals, anything. Also, there is some lakes by us so we were thinkin about putting beer in wine in our store also. Please help as much as possible. Thank you

What could you provide in your store that none of the other shops are selling --- that would make sense to sell there?

Your idea to market to the lake activities could be very good. Depending on the licensing requirements, adding drinks, snacks, etc. could prove to be very profitable during swimming, boating, fishing months.

Another consideration is do you have enough space to include other products. Does your franchise allow for this?

Good Luck!

Hello! Although you might not be able to compete with other stores in price, you can always offer better customer service and expertise-- especially if you are introducing a cigar lounge. Where convenience stores and other smoke shops may advertise low prices, you can get the word out that you are the destination for cigar lovers and those interested in unique cigarette choices (something along the lines of Sobrane,etc.). Market similar to a fine wine store-- offer incredible customer service and assistance in selections. You'll earn a regular, loyal customer base who counts on you to help them make informed choices. Plus your cigar lounge will create a "club" environment that will spark tons of great word of mouth advertising. Good luck!
