My wife and I are planning on opening a upscale womens clothing store, any advice or information will be greatly appreciated. We need sources for designer mechandise.

Any type of retail shop is a costly venture, even more so if you want to achieve the look and feel of upscale. You will require better racking, hangers, tags, tables, decor, signage, flooring, lighting, space and location. You will need a larger space to spread out. That means more square footage which in turn means much higher rental rates.

You will of course need a lot more capital to stock your shop with upscale merchandise. Even though you will aquire your inventory at wholesale, you are still paying the higher prices for upscale.

You will likely need to pay higher wages. You will want to hire experienced sales clerks who will hopefully offer better customer service skills.

Do you have your business plan in writing? Don't spend too much time on narrowing down your merchandise until you know how much money you have to work with. Write your business plan first, if you haven't already.
