"See lawyer now?"

I'm in the very early stages of testing my product - it's body lotion taht I make and use for myself. I'm thinking of holding an informal focus group to see if it's even viable and I'vebeen told I need to talk to a lawyer or an insurance agent first before I can do that. I understand that because of the liability that may be involved.

I would like to hear from others who are already in the business of making soaps, lotion, etc. for sale to the public. I know the licensing and permit bit but curious about the liability part.

My idea is to test it first to see if there will be customers, sell to my friends and family and if things work out sell at a crafts fair.

Thanks!
