"How do you get an idea to market with a big retailer?"

Hi -

I have an idea that I think could sell. It's a type of planter that you would find in a Home Depot in the garden section. Once you have an idea, how do you get it from "idea form" to sitting on store shelves somewhere? I think I could get a prototype together in a few months, but then what? Where do you go from there? Do you only need to know a manager-type like at a Home Depot or Lowes store, or do you need to know someone higher up the food chain at the corporate level? Starting a business can be intimidating and I'm sure not knowing what to do scares off most.

Thanks so much for any help!

Dan
