"I don't want to end up losing my home."

Quite a few months ago I was doing electrical drafting in Minnesota and then I was put on temp layoff. I decided I was not going to wait and hope but start a little business so I could have some kind of control of my life.

I read about window cleaning and got some equipment and put an ad in the free paper. I got a couple of jobs cleaning windows with my 16ft reacher I could do 1st and 2nd floor windows.

I also put an ad in the free paper to do yardwork and I did leaves in a couple of yards. The problem is now it started snowing and no one seems to want window cleaning.

I have years of experience cleaning. I was a janitor for maybe 5 years I was an on-site apartment caretaker for about 3 years. I can't figure out what I am missing. I advertised to clean windows or apartments or offices. I think part of it is the amount of competition.

I even placed ads asking people to teach me how to paint apartments and I would pay them to learn or work for them if they liked my work. Today I waked up to a window cleaning guy and gave him my business card. I said if you guys are hiring let me know I have experience and I work hard.

I am on the extension and I want to get something going before I have no money. Any help with ideas for advertising or finding someone to teach me this stuff. I also would pay someone a little to teach me window painting if anyone knows what that is.

Thanks

Earl West.

Have you tried cleaning windows for small businesses in strip malls? You could show up with your equipment in hand and be paid cash for each cleaning (or set appointments.) Our nail salon has filthy windows and the image that presents is awful, even though they do the best nails in town! (They all may need carpet cleaning too, and you could rent a machine as needed.)

Also, if you wanted to start your own house cleaning business, visit MaidDocs.com and read all the free info under "Informative Articles".
There is an article on Marketing/Advertising that would help with your window cleaning business too.

Best Wishes!
