"Starting "soft" service business"

Any ideas about starting a videography biz in a down economy? This would be in the "luxury" category, in other words not meeting a need.

If there is a market for the service, then you should start the business. I don't think it matters too much whether it would be considered luxury. The real question is: is there a market? Have you done any market research?

Starting to do market research, so getting ready to define my market segments (age, gender, race, income, etc) and to talk to anyone who will listen to me! Any suggestions to a newbie on market research? Oh yea, will try and get other companies similar to my concept to talk to me--folks from the opposite end of the country so not threatening by potential competition. Thanks for the response. My first posting!
