"Information on consignment mall/indoor flea market"




Hi All. I'm trying to start a consignment mall/indoor flea market, but not sure what all the requirements are. I know the basic concept of what you do in this type of store, but not quite sure how the logistics work as far as starting from the ground up and running prosperously. If there is anyone who has knowledge or insight about this type of business, please contact me @ tryn2@live.com or post on forum.

Having never started one myself I am not an expert but I can tell you upfront that the rules and requirements will vary from state to state and by county even, so unless you tell us where you are planning to start one, no one will be able to help. I would also recommend checking with your local small business administration chapter or chamber of commerce to get resources.

Your local SBDC (Small Business Development Center) will be able to point you in the right direction as far as your county and state requirements. They will also help you with your formal business plan which is a must.

You will need to consult with an attorney because you will need to have contracts or leases with your consignors (assuming they will rent space from you).

Hopefully you won't need a loan because banks don't generally give business loans to people who are going into a business with which they have no experience. It's difficult enough to be successful or profitable when you know what you're doing. Going into a business you know nothing about is almost suicidal.

How am i suppose to find a business i love to run if i'm not suppose to try,everyone has to start somewhere.I have a pretty good idea how it is to be ran but just needed alittle help but thanks for the push to go with it

You may want to check the forum at craftster.org. I think they have people visiting that forum that actually run those types of malls and/or sell through them. They may be able to give you the specific answers you need
