"trying to think of a business idea."

Hi all,
I'm about a year (give or take) away from finishing a teaching degree, but I'm not sure I want to be a teacher.
I've already got a Certificate IV in Business Administration and I am thinking about starting a business using the skills that I have developed at university.
I am at the stage where I want something to motivate me past the last bit of study.
I've thought about the types of businesses that I'd like to be involved in:
mobile tea rooms
personalised stationery, etc (with unusual names)
customised baby clothes
producing learning resources
lay-by school holiday activities
online newsagency (including zines)
free newspaper
collaborative newsletter produced by the primary school kids in the area

Some ideas are a bit wacky, and some others, I am not sure how I'd make money from them.

I already work 1-2 days each week and I also get government support, and when I do finish my degree, I can teach a couple days a week as a back-up to this business idea.

Can I bounce these business ideas off you... are there some similar ideas that I have missed, or some ideas that I can amalgamate?

Look forward to hearing from you

kittykat

Hi kittykat,

You are on the right track so far...thinking up ideas and then narrowing them down by feasibility, potential, and desire. I like all the ideas you came up with, with my favorites being the personalized stationary and customized baby clothing. Custom and personal anything are big hits - adds that special touch that many people seek. There is a large market for personalized gifts.

Because you nearly have a teaching degree, a business in that realm may be the easiest for you to start. Online learning resources is a hot topic, provided there is no, or very little, expense to the end user. That being said, expanding on which area of learning resources may be a tougher topic to pinpoint.

I would like to read what other members have to say.
