I am experienced in insurance sales and admin, administrative, advertising sales....any ideas?

I thought about selling something online...but what? (in todays economy)....have tons of kids clothes (gently worn) to sell also.

In addition to selling the kid's clothing (after they have outgrown them of course), look for other items in your market that are in demand on eBay. A lot of times there will be unappreciated items in your area that the national and worldwide market may pay dearly for. It need not be expensive to you, if you can find something that doesn't sell well in your area.

Oh boy-- I feel like apologizing for all of the self serving posts!!! But mine will be just as self serving...so...

Let me say this-- all of these posts that people put up-- I would check each one of them out individually and see if they are a fit for you. In general if you have to pay out money up front then don't do it.

The issue with selling the childrens clothes is that you have a very limited inventory. I will say this-- one of the most successful small businesses in a small town I have ever seen was a children's clothes re-sell shop. She would buy the clothes out right (no consignment). She would go through bags, offer a price and re-sell the clothes. She made VERY good money doing it... and she took her three kids with her to the shop! I am guessing, including starting inventory (which you could also find at garage sales), fixtures, rent, etc that you could start the shop with about $5,000.

What about starting a local online newspaper? You could sell your own advertising (do not use google adsense), blah blah blah-- I bet you could make $1000 a month doing it and have a ton of fun...

I have several other (much more profitable than the online newspaper) ideas for online businesses-- they just depend on your family, availability, personality, and beliefs, etc.

Also, the self serving part- We have an online software company... we are developing software for several specific industries...right now we have things for general businesses (a way for them to send text messages to their clients, send out full html emails, we provide webstites, etc).
