I am trying a marketing idea this year. I made double-sided
business cards and put a line for the persons' name there with
a 10% off next alteration tag line. This is to have the client
refer me to friends and family and benefit themselves. I plan
to track the number of referals and who generates the most.
Has anyone else done this? What was the result?
Getting referrals from your current customer base is one of the best ways to get new customers. Referrals are a warm market!
How is your approach working? I tried the 10% off approach on my business cards and it did not get any response.
The key I've found is promoting the referral program itself. Talk about it to your clients. Create a program 3, 6, or 12 months - the person who refers the most will win a prize (ipod or something like that).
Create a buzz about it. Offer weekly prizes or a prize per referral like a custom imprinted coffee mug, calendar - something your customers will find useful.
Give everyone an extra business card or two and tell them about your program.
Partner up with wedding boutiques, give cards to salespeople in department stores like Sears and have them refer clients to you and be a part of your program.
At one time I had a childrens clothing store I too tried the 10% off. One of my more vocal customers told me when she shops if she doesn't see at least a 25% off sign she won't even bother coming in. There was some food for thought if that % is something you can afford to offer. Just something to think about. Simple Errands Louise
