The best place to go for grant and funding information is the Foundation Center (www.foundationcenter.org). They have lists of orgs that fund arts programs on every level Fed. State, Local, Corp.
Also as already suggested check with your state especially their Arts programs agency for info.
Have you thought of renting your location out? I am assuming you have a location where you do the re-enactments. Corporations can rent it out for meetings, events, etc. Film companies may rent it out for film shoots or want to rent your props.
Are there organizations that preserve historic homes, areas, etc. They may have information or can point you in new directions in your search for funding. I say this because you both have the same goal of preserving a part of your towns history.

We don't have a main place that we perform at we are bacically street performers and what ever organization want to hire or give us a donation for shows it's up to them. We only have one place that we perform at during the season from Oct to March that we get donations from for a 2 show a month deal at a local Swap Meet they hire us seasonaly. The rest of the season we do parades, events anywhere some wants us. We would like to get a permadent place in the future with a portable set and such. We are not asking for a huge donation and in this ecomony it's tough right now. Anyone who would like to get a tax deduction for a donation is appriciated Debra
