"Any unique ideas?" Wed May-06-09 06:13 AM by scorpion
Here's my story.....I was recently layed off from my job. There are no jobs available in the area. Moving to a new area is not an option. So here I am wanting to start up my own business but have no idea what to do. Hopefully you can help me come up with some ideas. Here is my background.....
*I'm 42 years old. *I've mainly managed restaurants throughout my life. *I was a shipper / reciever for 5 years. *I was a tour guide for a year. *Did a couple of years in retail. *Have some experience with website design. *Don't have a lot of money (maybe a couple thousand at most) and no access to any more. *I live in a city that has a big tourist industry during the spring and summer time. *My wife owns and operates her own daycare.
So hopefully this information will help you steer me in the right direction. I don't necessarily care what I am doing as long as it's my own business. I appreciate any ideas that you can give me. Though, please no suggestions about doing marketing or any "get rich quick" schemes.I've noticed this forum has been spammed by them.

I understand your predicament. Hmmm, from your words, you are not amenable to marketing because of get rich quick proposals. Of course these offerings are too good to be true. But not all marketing business is like this. There are still who are legit and may somehow gives you freedom from dealing with a "boss". With home based business, you are your own boss and you own all your time. Anyway, care to check this out. I am not referring to a definite company because I will tell you about huge launches that will happen in the USA before the prelaunch phase. This is definitely free, no obligation whatsoever. No annoying emails and definitely NO SPAMMING. There will only be hard facts and HONESTY is on the forefront. Refreshing, right? Anyway, goodluck on your way to success...

What about a tourist website for your area? Given your background in retail and restaurants, you could not only list (and have people rate) hotels in your city, but you could perhaps organise retail shopping trips. Or you could list the best retail shops and restaurants near certain hotels.
Or perhaps you could open your home to a bed a breakfast, offering a tour around your city as part of the package.
Given that there's a big drive in your city in spring and summer, could you do something unique in autumn/winter to do with tourism?
