Friends have suggested that we find corporate sponsors for our Children's Fishing Tournaments which are held the second Saturday of each month from April to October.
The Lancaster, Ohio Super Wal Mart store has just decided to hold their huge Spring: "Children's Miracle Network Fund Raiser" at our park: www.fishingatcountrycovevillage.com in a few weeks.
So, I guess corporations like to do this sort of opportunity. But, how and what is the best way to approach Corporations for donations to give out to the children and in particular to the three(3) winners in each of the two age divisions?
Sincerely, Pastor Brady

I would try contacting the newspaper about it and getting a notice in the events or community section asking for sponsors. Also contacting the chamber of commerce would be a good idea.

The easiest thing for you to do is make a list of companies that you are aware of who participate in such things generally. Pay special attention to companies who TARGET children for the age division prizes.
Contact the company first to find out what their policy is for charitable donations OR Corporate sponsorships. Some of them have specific request channels that you need to follow for one which is different for the other. For example, do you need to ask in writing on letterhead, etc. We only accept requests that are on the charity's letterhead and includes their charitable number and will not consider a project if we do not understand the purpose of it. If it's not a charitable but rather a "community" organization, then you may have a more difficult time getting sponsors, but you should follow the same procedure; ask them what is the best way to make your request.
Marketing expenses (sponsorships) and charitable donations come out essentially the same on a corporate expense sheet so, most companies are most willing to participate.
In this case, as it is a corporate sponsorship you are looking for, you'll want to be sure to explain in your request letter the benefits to the company (your advertising for the events, etc.) as well as the benefits to the community recipients.
Hope this helps.
Good luck with it.

Probably too late for your spring event, but keep in mind for next year that there are many foundations that offer free money if you meet the proper profile requirements. Check out http://www.FoundationCenter.org. They have a vast database on US foundations.
