I'm starting a new online business targeting small business owners and potential entreprenuers who need help with the marketing/business analysis side of things. I've created a website http://www.smallbizexcel.com and 10 Principles for Small Businesses http://www.smallbizexcel.com/SmallBusinessPrinciples.html from which I plan to link more content.
Can you give me feedback on my business idea? What kind of help do you think small business owners need? I don't want to get into direct consulting but rather look at the areas of greatest need then target providing helpful information. My idea is to make a profit (eventually) by providing spreadsheet templates & tools after I have provided useful information up front for free.

Looks great Jeff. I have only one thing to take to task. It is something that has been absolutely imperative to the building of my business and something that is consulted every day and reviewed and renewed annually. That is a business plan.
Without one, one might as well hang up their skates.

Thanks Tina. I agree on the absolute importance of a business plan. I was avoiding that subject because there are so many other sites that have good templates for business plans. However, your comment gave me an idea which is to reference something like ww.sba.gov and then give people guidance on the key sections that require quantitative analysis (pricing, sales forecast, inventory, break-even analysis, etc.). The more I think about it the more I like the idea - thanks!
