"Could this idea fly or sink? What do you see as pro and con?"
As a homeschooling family, I've given it some thought about starting a part time pet photography studio. Serious pet owners seem to be willing to spend a little $$ pampering and grooming their fur babies. I'd like to have props, hats, jewelry and even wardrobe for animals like dogs, cats, lizards etc. Of course with varying sizes. Plan to cross market with other pet businesses and even giving a percentage to help a local animal shelter. I'd consider being mobile until sufficient client referral builds up. I have a digital camera and will take photography course to better improve my skills. What is your opinion? Could this idea fly or sink? What do you see as pro and con? What am I missing

I think this idea is great. I see as the pros: no one or not many people are already doing this at least from my experience and knowledge. It would be relatively inexpensive and easy to get going as well as easy to market. Tons of people have cats and dogs. If you are good enough I might even want you to take pics of my dogs. Lol!
Cons: Depending upon where you live and the city and county rules as well as any rules imposed by your place of residence you may need more licenses than you would want to bother with or you may not be able to do it out of your residence at all. I would check on this first. I would also be careful about just going to anyone's home just because they say they are interested. This could end of dangerous. You will also want liability insurance if anyone decides to sue you over anything.

Lady Zenobia,
I think this is a wonderful idea. Many people are willing to spend lots of money on their pet babies. I think the idea of dressing them up in outfits is adorable, who wouldnt love that.
You might also find someone good with Photoshop. You could take many pictures of them and then have them collaged. This is a great money maker in its self.
Much luck to you, I think you will do very well in this.

Personally, I think it's a nutso idea, but I think it could fly.
Here's why.
People are nutso about their pets.
I market/sell my products at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto and one woman was selling "outfits" cut and sewn specifically for cats and dogs.
I personally thought it was the most ridiculous, funniest thing I have ever seen... UNTIL...
I realized that this woman was selling her outfits left right and center and having a fantastic show.
Go for it.
Unlike whoever it was who suggested it would only make a good part-time job, I think you could make a great deal of money at it; assuming your "outfits"/costumes were really well made.
Good luck with it. Tina Brooks, VP Marketing Brooks Pepperfire Foods, Inc. Makers of Peppermaster Hot Sauces http://www.peppermaster.com

Idea can certainly fly!
Pro People + Pets = $$$$$
Con Dont go to them! Your time is wasted, not enough to cover your costs. Have them come to YOU! AT your place, or in a store weekly as suggested above.

Photoshop is a definate must...I love mine. I thik it is a cute idea and I do think that people would go for it. I don't know if you would be able to go to a store and do it since you homeschool but if you are only there say on the weekends then maybe it would work for you. Schedule as many as you can in that time span and the rest of the week is at home creating the pix and stuff for your clients. Think...holidays...Santa, Easter Bunny, oh yeah I can see it working for you.
