"Bridesmaid gown rental"

I will be soon opening my own business to rent bridesmaid gowns and have been looking at the business structures. I was wondering whether I should register as a sole proprietorship or an LLC. I thought an LLC could run with one owner, but I am seeing on most sites that it has at least two owners. Any advice?

Erica

Hi Erica:

Whether or not you can run an LLC with less than two people depends on the state. Some states say it's okay and some say that it is not so you will want to check with your state to see what they allow.

Between a sole proprietorship and an LLC, I would choose an LLC just because it will give you more flexibility as you grow and will also give you the liability protection that you get if you're incorporated.
