The Al Marks Inventive Mind Grant

Idea Cafe's Al Marks Inventive Mind Grant is dedicated to the memory of my dad, Al Marks, who was unceasingly inventive. As a space engineer/physicist, he worked on early concepts for the lunar module. His mind was so open to possibilities, we never knew what to expect when he came home... like his closeup home movies of worms moving - he thought that might be a good solution for transit in a zero-gravity environment. Or his collection of lava rocks to study the attributes of a lunar-type surface.

Al Marks pioneered engineering concepts we now all take for granted as part of everyday life. After his aerospace career, he persistently worked to develop new methods of transportation kinetics. Unfortunately he died before his concepts were proven via prototypes and patented. So we hope this award can help a promising inventive mind out speed the process of taking his or her ideas to the next level. For this grant, in honor of Al Marks, your own inventive approach -- like a new approach to an old problem or a totally new idea -- will give you an edge.

Timing: The winner has now been announced here at IdeaCafe.com.

For What Kind of Person or Business: This grant was open to anyone who currently owns a business or is planning to start one.

Qualifications: In order to access the application form, you must be a registered "Regular" member of Idea Cafe, and not previously have received a grant directly from Idea Cafe. (Our grants are not open to past or present Idea Cafe employees, their relatives or vendors.)
