X Startup.Com has come
back home to its birthplace, The Idea Cafe!
Early last spring Alex Carter, a young entrepreneur
from Ames, Iowa, read an article in a magazine about how Generation
X is set to become the most entrepreneurial in history.
" I was very intrigued by this notion,"
said Alex. "I had no idea that so many other people my age
were taking the same path as I was."
To find more about the subject, Alex went
to the Idea Cafe website to see if he could learn more about
what young entrepreneurs were up to. After consulting with
other young entrepreneurs, he found that action needed to
be taken. He found there was a need for a web site to help
teach Generation X about starting a business and to tell others
about what his fellow Gen X'ers were up to.
"I bounced ideas off of users of Idea Cafe's
CyberSchmooz, and I went to work on creating the site"
Alex finished the site and X Startup.Com
went live early in 1999. The site featured how-to information
to help Gen X'ers understand the fundamentals of starting
their own business. The site also offered new business ideas,
and profiled successful Generation X owned and operated businesses.
The site caught the attention of Idea Cafe
CEO Francie Ward.
"Francie and I got in contact with each
other and we thought that a marriage between our sites would
be very beneficial to our visitors. Idea Cafe has fantastic
information covering all aspects of running a small business,
which would be of great help to my GenX viewers. And my XStartup
site contained solid info on what young entrepreneurs were
achieving, which Idea Cafe regulars would be interested in.
It was a perfect fit!"
After being conceived and grown on the Idea
Cafe website, XStartup now finds itself right back where it
originated! We now welcome you to GenXStartup at Idea Cafe!

there were a lot!" said Alex. "There is a powerful phenomenon
taking place with Generation X right now in the business world.
Many are opting to"just say no" to career day and are forging
