Independent Contractors Rejoice! Here's Your Invoice Jump Start
Busy, busy, busy! While working those extra-long hours and making the big bucks, many of you independent contractors may still be craving time to create that standard invoice for your biz -- a pretty darn nice thing when billing time comes and you want to collect.
Today's your lucky day! Check out the sample invoice below and create your invoice today!
Apples & Oranges
If you also bill clients for expenses, keep those numbers separate from your hours worked. Attach an expense sheet to your invoice or list expenses separately on your standard invoice. This will help you out come tax time, since our friends at the IRS like to see revenue and expense figures in their own little columns.
You can be as general or specific as you'd like when describing the services performed. You'll need to make this call yourself, taking into consideration each client's preferences. Regardless, each invoice should clearly state hours worked and your hourly fee or the charge for completing a job, whichever applies.
A Couple of Tips
- Try enclosing a self-addressed stamped envelope with your invoice. You might get a big return faster on that tiny investment.
- Be sure to keep a copy of the invoice for your records and possibly one for an "Unpaid Invoices" folder, so you can easily see who owes you some moola!
