Reach Out and Capture a Graphic from the Web
Here's a simple technique you can use to transfer graphics to and from people you do business with -- such as clients and advertisers.
And -- IF you get permission to reuse graphics you see on the Web and like -- you can use the same method to capture images to add to your own storehouse of clip art.
Beware! Don't accidentally get your company in legal hot water!
Most logos and images you see on the Net are copyrighted and are not intended for use by others. So, unless you are absolutely certain what you are copying is OK for your company to use, email the site that features the images you want and get their written permission to copy and reuse. Let them know specifically how and where you plan to use their art.Steps for PC users:
First, get online and find the web page with the image you want to capture. Once you find it, place your cursor over it and click on your right mouse button. If it's an image you can copy, a pull-down menu will appear, giving you several options. Choose Save Image As. It will immediately supply you with a file name. For example: image1.bmp. (You may also create your own name for the file, but it's best to leave the extension as it is unless you're a file conversion maven).Next, choose which drive you wish to save the file to. (You may also want to create a new folder to group together any related files you've copied.)
When you're finished, click on OK. The image is now on the drive you specified and can be used at your convenience -- assuming you got permission to reuse it, of course.
Steps for Mac users:
Just place your cursor on the image you want, then drag and drop it onto your own desktop, or into any folder.Tips to keep in mind:
- Images from the Web may be too rough-looking to work well in a printed document.
- If you copy a logo to use, keep in mind that the company that owns the logo does not want it altered in any way, so no tinkering!
