"Help! Web design fraud"

I paid $500 for a website with a 100% money back guarantee through pay-pal. I checked the other sites the company had done as well as looked around online to see if any negative press.
The co. is in Northern California, I'm in Southern Connecticut.
We worked online as well as phone to complete the home page. Once I confirmed I liked the home page. He had me e-mail him that I liked it and to begin coding. This would effectively make the money back guarantee null & void.
It has been 2wks where he has produced nothing and stopped responding to my text/calls/e-mails.

Do I contact BBB, consumer protection, lawyer?

Thanks for any and all genuine help,

Todd

Todd,

Unfortunately you may not be able to get your money back in this case. The BBB can take the report, they unfortunately do not have any power in this case unless he is a member. It will cost you more to get a lawyer and try to sue than what you will get back.

I have been through experiences like this and it has always come out the same. I paid a tax for it and went on my way.

As a web designer I hear stories like this all the time from potential clients. My suggestion to them is you pay half of it or some kind of deposit and pay the rest when it is done. It is designers like that who give the rest of us a bad name.

I wish I had better advice for you, but unless it was a site that was extremely technical $500 is almost too much anyway.

Thank you,
Eric

Do you have any sites you've done that I could take a look at?
What city/state are you in? References, Rates?
I have the outline, artwork and some material
I'm looking for 3-4pages that can be edited & altered by me.

Thanks for the advice

Todd

My rates depending on the complexity of the site varies, but they start at $300.

Some of my examples are:
www.tennesseeoutlawband.com
www.godsmiracleangels.com
www.thecannoninn.com

I am in Woodbury, TN

If you would like to check my profile on Linkedin I have several recommendations from clients on there. You can find it at www.linkedin.com/in/teamfisk

Thanks,
Eric
