"Need new business name ----help"
|
My husband is starting a new business that includes:
Junk Removal, commercial, residential, garages, basements, etc, tree, and bush trimming, lawn mowing, leaf removal, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, and handyman services. We live in Tennessee. Our last name is Laughlin. We would like something proffesional, yet catchy.
Thanks

A guy (I forget his name) has a business naming business and I'm sure he'll be on this board responding to your post soon. Anyway, he advises against using your name, numbers or initials. Numbers and initials are difficult to remember and names don't really relay what your business is about. I'm no pro at naming businesses (my post is below), but I could come up with some ideas. I was thinking of something like Odd Jobs Inside Out Service Handy Service At your service I hope some of these ideas lead to something good for you

That's true to some extent about using a person's name. That depends on the business, though, and where your customers are. If you're exclusively online, it's usually a bad idea. However, if you're market is local, it can be a very good idea. That's especially true if someone starts a business using a skill for which they already have a reputation.
You can use your name and still have a business name that's descriptive such as Laughlin's Leaf Removal or Laughlin's Landscaping. In this case, the alliteration makes it catchy and easy to remember.

There is a local business here that we have used several times.
Their logo is the "Beverly Hillbillies" truck with a wood shingle banner that says "Just Junk It!"
They are doing quite well here in a town of 27,000.
Keep it simple and state who and what you are...
Best wishes!!

Wish your husband's name was Bob - because Odd Job Bob REALLY struck me! lol
Seriously - I also love the Household Hero as a business name, with a tagline something along these lines: "Got an odd job? Hire a Household Hero!"
