I will be interviewing web designers this fall for my e-commerce site I am building. It will be semi-custom, with e-commerce and flash. I'm not a web expert - so I'm not sure what I should ask to make sure I cover all my bases. I have some basic ideas. Do most web designers provide contracts? Also - should I travel to interview the designers first round - or expect them to come to my town - since I will be 85 miles away, what is appropriate? I want to be as professional as possible.

Hello,
What do you want your eCommerce site to DO for you?
What is the overall PURPOSE of the site?
Look "pretty?"
Look "professional?"
Just functional enough to collect payment for whatever you're selling?
Actively participate in generating $50,000 in revenue in the first 12 months of operation?
Etc.
Note: A site can look "professional" and not make a DIME.
Your questions should be based the goal(s) you set for yourself.
The more you know about what you want, the more targeted your questions can be for the person or firm you want to work with.
Hope this helps.

I know a creative agency that specializes in website design and other online media. Whenever we have a potential project we usually will meet the client to discuss the project or they can meet with us. Since many pontential clients are unsure what to ask or how to explain the project clearly we go over a website worksheet which asks a series of questions that are geared specifically toward crucial information a designer will need inorder to carry out the task. I would be very happy to work with you so give me a call if I could bid on your project. I hope this information has helped you.
