First off, forget the meta tags! Most search engines don't look at them anyways because they've been abused so much.

If you want to get your site into Google and other search engines you'll want to get links from external sites to yours as well as build a search engine friendly web site. If you wish to do this on your own you can through a few methods.

1. Learn how to make web pages yourself using an HTML editor. Go through trial and error to discover how to make your site successful online. Spend time researching Search Engine Marketing and building back links to your site as well as paying money to get directories to link to your site.

2. Hire a consulting company to install a Content Management System into your site so you can manage content yourself. Also, if that company doesn't specialize in Search Engine Marketing, you'll want to hire a company to assist you with that. My company offers both of these solutions at reasonable prices. I don't want to give you a big sales pitch or anything, but, if you're looking at generating traffic from search engines you'll at least want to hire a Search Engine Marketing company. Online search competition is extremely competitive! Often times, webmasters make critical errors which prevent their site from being indexed in search engines.

money to a company or corporation to do what you can do
yourself for FREE.
I have a small business that I have done all the work on and
it is growing leaps and bounds.

recieve referals to other sites and now my contact list is
growing like "hangers in a dark closet". It takes a
little time to do it yourself, but in the long run I have
found it much more productive and cheaper, and I KNOW WHAT IS
GOIN ON with my business.

You can read many articles at this site without joining.

There are so many "hoops" to jump through in order to land higher on search engines. I've been trying to get our site listed higher, and this site has provided great information and links to other sites also.

To get higher on Google you'll need to submit a sitemap. Google.com has a webmaster page that will give more information about their engine, but if you're not familiar with html than it may be a bit confusing.

Search engines are continually changing their requirements, you'll have to stay on top of changes to assure that your site will remain high.

Those will at least give them a "heads up" about your site... but if you want to get shown on the first page of search results you'll have to...

1. Have relevant content (articles, information, etc.)
2. Have links to your site (not as critical as some make it sound, but it helps)
3. Learn

Check out a site like problogger.net for tips / techniques related to blogging that can be applied (somewhat) to "traditional" sites.

Also, after checking out your site, I'm still confused on what it is you actually do. I would suggest expanding the information... give examples, case studies, etc... The benefit is two-fold... 1. it gives search engines something to use to figure out what your site is about and 2. Once people stumble across it, they'll be able to figure out what you offer. If they can't, they'll hit the back button and try somebody else.

Ok, here's my two cents worth.

When the "spiders" crawl a website, they follow the links. So if you have a new website with no incoming links you can try this.

Find forums related to your site that are indexed by the search engines. Sign up with them and be sure to add a signature including your url. When the spiders crawl, they find your link and follow it to your site. Bingo! You are indexed.

This doesn't mean you get top billing or even in the top gazillion pages. That's a whole other story. But one clue, the more links the more threads the spiders have to crawl.

Your pages have meta tags on them already, which is good. Not sure they're the right one, but they are there. And they are important. The title tag, appears on searches as does the description. Some search engines still use keyword relevance in their algoritam, too.

Search Engine Submission and Search Engine Optimization are two different things so if you want to just submit to search engines then that wont be a big deal. SEO is huge and to be done properly it takes time and knowledge.

If you don't have time to learn all of the different trick to SEO then I would suggest (like Aaron|High Conversions), to hire an SEO company to optimize your site.

If you do have time to research and learn about SEO, I would then suggest starting your research at www.seochat.com (a personal favorite). They have plenty of articles and an abundance of helpful tools to compare sites and test a competitor?s site vs. yours.

There has been a lot of good information posted in this forum but none would be as valuable as you researching and studying how SEO works, why it works, and how to make it work for you.

(Graydon|Marlin Creek) offered very good advice when he said:

As far as submitting to search engines are concerned, 90% of Internet traffic comes from Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask (occasionally Alta Vista). Submitting to 100's of search engines are time consuming and expensive when submitting to these four can be sufficent.

Do a search for a website validator. Some search engines use meta tags and measure your keyword density.

Examples:

Yahoo and MSN use meta tags and keywords
Google uses link popularity and content

Submit your site to Google, MSN, Yahoo, Yahoo Directory, and dmoz.org to start. Then start exchanging links with relevant websites which will help you in Google, notice I said relevant sites.

Get a free blog from wordpress.org added and a forum like phpbb added to your website to add more content. The more content your website has the better, you're bound to type something that gets a hit from the search engines.

Updating content is like super important for your website.
