"I need help/suggestions with my marketing!"

I have a plus size lingerie web site. keepingsecretstoo.net, I have tried the yahoo and google per click, email marketing and direct mail. I'm currently using my "host" companies advertising per click program (which is suppose to put me on msn, yahoo, google etc. for one low price...) yeah well, that has gotten me about 20 hits and NO sales since December. Needless to say I've cancelled that service effective 4/15. I actually had more sales and hits when I was doing yahoo and google seperately. I know this business can work WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?! please take a look at the site and any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I did a search for your website and follow the following:

Google: 1 page listed
Yahoo: 5 pages listed

MSN: No listing

You virtually are non-existent on the search engines and you have no inbound links, which means noone is linking to you.

I would suggest you analyze your website and your marketing goals. If you are strictly going to do your business online then you need to do some key word research.

Word Tracker provides the best key word research. It does cost, but it's affordable for 1-weeks worth of use.

For instance some keyword phrases that people are actually looking for on the Internet are:

- plus size bras
- plus size sleepwear

Once you've put together a list of what people are actually looking for you can do a number of things.

- continue to use PPC and target these keywords you found.

- build content rich pages that target your list of keywords. For instance keepingsecretstoo.net/plus-size-bras.html

then list the problem followed by the solution. Having trouble finding a bra that fits and is comfortable. Tired of those skimpy bras that hold nothing back in the department store. Then shop online at ... you'll find high quality, comfort-fit bras that are designed just for you.

Get the point?

- The more content you build the more the search engines will like you.

- If you cannot add anymore content to your website then I suggest you do the following.

Write a press release about your new business and submit it to prweb.com

Write articles that target your keywords and submit them to sites like ezinearticles.com

Write an classified ad and submit it to free classified sites.

Press on to Success!

Jeff

Claudette,

First of all you have a great business idea. Since you have been in business for several years, you can position yourself as an expert in lingerie, plus-sized fashion, etc. This will give you as owner more credibility and get the word out about your business.

Also look into partnerships with other online entities that cater to plus-size women and have links from their site to yours and vice-versa. This should include the companies that provide the products you sell.

Also try getting your website and/or products in to the hands of celebrities. Also look into expanding your product lines. Find other niche problem areas for plus-sized women and sell products that address that issue, i.e., exercise gear, sports bras, or swimwear.

I would love to talk to you more about your company as a potential customer with suggestions and as a PR/marketing specialist.

Good Luck,

Hi Claudette,

This Dr. Biz guy is making me nervous.

We looked into using "pay per click" services and what I discovered was that "pay per click" rarely works for anyone but the one offering the service.

Your keywords and your relevancy is what is going to get you on websites. I can't believe people are still pretending to sell "SEO" like that. If you're publishing to the web, the spiders will find you. You don't have to "submit" anything like you used to years ago.

What you DO need is to drive traffic to your site and track where it is coming from. The old adage of "if you build it, they will come" is a crock. If they don't know you're there, they're not going to find you.

You have to spend some time, effort and energy letting people know that you exist firstly and why you are the expert in your product secondly. You need to become the one that people will come to for what you provide. That's what niche marketing is all about: I recommend that you google "niche marketing" and learn how to target focus your efforts.

Then get in front of the eyes of the people who are interested in your product...

If I were marketing your product, I would write articles about the things that I know about (brief, couple of paragraphs) and then submit them to websites that would find them of interest; websites relevant to your business of course.

For example...

Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Curves, etc. All of them and many different smaller organizations are thirsty for web content that will be of use to their members. Knowing what you must know about plus-size lingerie, you would be the perfect person to write an article about resizing your bra when you lose weight... Buying a great fitting bra is often very difficult for women, as you must know. Buying bras that will accommodate one's weight loss regime is probably a great topic for someone such as yourself to share in print.

If you can't write... There's a place to put your money. Pay a writer to draft the articles for you. You'll probably get a discount if both of your names are on the article. You have the expertise, they have the writing skill.

Also, I use a lot of press releases to let the world know what is going on with my business. Again, if you can't write one, there are relatively inexpensive services that will do this for you.

You can also hook up and do co-advertising with some of the companies whose products you carry... Get them linking to you as one of their retailers.

I've got a million other tricks for you, but unfortunately, limited time.

I hope these ideas help.

Make sure the marketing company specializes in branding and niche marketing; also ask them how they intend to monitor your project to see if it is working and what their plan b is if that doesn't work. It's been my experience that the one thing lacking in Marketing companies is a checks and balances. You might want to have a read of the book What Sticks by Rex Briggs and Greg Stuart; it is probably the most insightful book I have read in the last decade relevant to advertising and marketing.
