"Organic Eggs and Chicken"

I'm in start-up of an Organic Egg and Broiler business. We plan on selling off-farm in the beginning and maybe incorporating delivery into the business. I am putting together a business plan at this point and as I have been told to do by many folks I am working on the marketing plan first. I've never written a bus plan before and I find myself in a swarm of info and ideas and I'm having trouble sorting them out and finding a beginning. Is there a "BEST" place to start with the market plan? If so I could use some suggestions on steps to take. If this seems unclear as to my request then you know whats circling around in my head.

Thanks Scott

The best place to start is at the beginning...

kidding.

We used the Canadian Government Interactive Business Planner to help create our original business plan: http://www.cbsc.org/ibp/en/ You can check to see if the US Government has set up a similar service, but I don't know.

There are also lots of informative links and Q&A in the Biz center right here at IC.

First, skip writing the marketing plan first. That is actually the last thing you need to be worrying about at this point. The business plan comes first.

Talk with your local Small Business Development Center about your plan. They can provide you with the best service and they are free!

My SBDC helped me with my biz plan and it turned out pretty darned good. The marketing side of things can only come after you have drafted how the plan of runnign your business is done.

Good Luck!

Scott;

Lisa gives some excellent advice here. While marketing is important, you need a business plan first. Start with your SBDC. Try this link http://www.sba.gov/sbdc/sbdcnear.html
That will take you straight to the locator page so that you can find one in your area.

Best of Luck to You!
