"Marketing a community thrift store"

Hi,
I was recently hired by a small town Big Brothers/Big Sisters
organization to boost sales in their thrift store. The Board
of Directors, while recognizing the store has been in the
black since its inception 3 years ago, wants to see a marked
increase in sales to the point the store is profitable.

We do not wish to increase the prices of any of the
merchandise. We sell to avid bargain hunters, families on
tight budgets and people (specifically women) who love to find
a "wow" second-hand clothing item.

I have been given a small, small operating budget, and a
15-hour work week to accomplish this task by the end of 2007.

The store is staffed entirely by volunteers. Our merchandise
currently comes from donations. Our location is easily
accessed, quite attractive, clean and friendly.

I've never participated in a venture quite like this. Where
and how do I begin to market this never-been-marketed-before
gem of a store?

H. Ellen
