"Freelance job site?"

I don't know if this is the right place for this question, but do you know of any places that I could find some freelance work quickly? Maybe an online website or newspaper that would post jobs that need to be done as soon as possible. I've been looking on craigslist, but I've submitted some emails to those postings before and never received a response. I'm trying to find some places that we can go to when we have a dip in business to bring in some extra income.

Had never heard of GPT (Get Paid To) websites, but apparently it's a way to make a little extra cash. Not sure how much exactly you're looking to make or even how much you can actually make from GPT, but it might be something to look into. Here's an article I found that explained the program in detail: http://www.nannytomom.com/financial/gpt-programs-1.php

I googled GPT and there seems to be a few credible programs out there.

What kind of work are you trying to do, building websites? These came to mind immediately but maybe they are not the kind of frelance work you need.

www.ifreelance.com

Personally I think that Craigslist is your best bet compared to sites like www.elance.com,www.ifreelance.com,or www.rentacoder.com.

Craigslist is a numbers game, so the more posts you respond to the better your chances are of landing a client. If you wait the whole day to respond to a project or even the next day there will be a hundred people who have already sent in replies.

Elance.com type sites etc. usually work on commission or are pay sites, and they tend to have a lot of foreign competition, even though there may be projects for you to do, most of the time you will be competing with someone willing to do a project for much less than you can afford. In my opinion your energy would be better spent using some inexpensive marketing techniques in your local market.

In our experience, even with competition on Craigslist, and people willing to do projects cheap, a good portfolio is what wins over the potential client, not price.

Hope this helps!

Wonky computer this morning... Not enough coffee yet.

I had a thought, I don't know if it is viable, it's not my industry.

What happens if you tool around the internet, find websites that have easily fixed, but obvious flaws, send a quote to the site owner describing the flaw and the quick fix and if they accept, you can have it fixed in 24 hours... and have them have the ability to pay via paypal...

Can that happen? Is that a bad idea???

I know a renovations guy used to do that sort of thing to find day labour... Would walk up to a house, tell the owner what was wrong, what he could do to fix it and exactly what it would cost. He was rarely refused.

I have used most of the freelance sites mentioned in these replies. I've used
Elance
Getafreelancer.com
www.guru.com
ifreelance.com

I highly recommend you read my article on dealing with freelance websites before you begin bidding on projects. It is named How to Utilize Freelance Sites Without Getting Burnt. I posted the link below:

There are also a few other articles on my blog, which offer practical tips for freelancers.

Therer are many freelance job board sites out there. Here are some of the best and most popular freelance sites:

GetAFreelancer (http://www.getafreelancer.com)
Remote Gurus (http://www.remotegurus.com)
ScriptLance (http://www.scriptlance.com)
ELance (http://www.elance.com)

I recommend you register at each of the sites above and begin your quest for new work.

Good luck!
