"Financing"
Wed Nov-01-06 08:33 AM by dwelch72

AFter twelve yeas of practical experience in managing multi million dollar assets/Marketting/Administrave duties...

I already have a small business up and running with nothing! I got lucky and the owner of a small shopping Center gave me first month rent free to open a store front Music Studio.

I have a part time day job teaching music at a private school so I can still eat.

I already had the Keyboard, Other instruments can be brought in as needed, I bought some method books and decorated using "second hand" stuff in the store, although it looks first class.

I have few students right now and have been able to make the second month's rent on the space, I have also been able to run an ecenomical ad in the local paper which is generating response, and designed signage for the marquis to generate walk in traffic.

All in all been very lucky so far... but I need help to make it thru first year of this start up... big time.

How do I go about applying for a grant somewhere?

I developed a program that my Music Studio will host named "The Gift Of Music" which I hope local businesses and individuals will donate to. The funds would then be allocated to underprivileged students to take private music lessons; who normally might not be able to afford to; after a qualifying application process.

This is to be announced in a press release in the local paper soon!

Any Ideas out there?

David,

There aren't many grants out there for startup businesses, though if you are a 501(c)(3)nonprofit it's a little easier.

Idea Cafe has a listing of bona fide small business grants (including our own $1000 small biz cash grant, due Dec. 15). You'll find it in our Members-Only section at
https://www.businessownersideacafe.com/business_grants/index.php

No fee to join - just a small registration form to complete. Even if you are already registered in Cyberschmooz, you have to register separately for other Idea Cafe areas like the grants.
Good luck to you!
