"Has anyone heard of funding for the restaurant business"

I currently own a well reviewed popular restaurant, the problem is that I am small and in order to produce profit I need a larger bar, which means a I need to increase my space or purchase a larger space. I have looked on the internet and everyone wants to sell guide books for government funding. This site looks so cool. Just want a little direction if anyone know anything.

thanks

John

I'd have to agree about those books being scams. Your bank is the best option. Im a business and finance consultant and I generally only deal with helping people get bank financing because its one of the only REAL sources of financing out there. The key is to find what they require and then locate a resource to help you meet the requirement. Alot of people overlook banks because of there strict requirements for approval, but if you can find a way to get what they need....its well worth it.

Feel free to contact if you need any help with that.

Ever since that late night infomercial popped up on tv years ago offering a book full of free government money (grants) people have gotten stuck on the notion that you can get grants for anything, including starting or expanding a for-profit business. There simply are no free handouts.

Funding must be gotten the old fashioned way...hard work and savings. Or family/friends pitching in with loans. Even if you are able to qualify for SBA backed loans, you still need to provide a good 30% of the cash yourself (along with collateral).

That cool site is undoubtedly making tons of money off of people that are duped into buying their "guide" books.

Unfortunately this is just not true. As someone that does grant research for a living you don't have to take my word for it. Just look at the grant programs that are listed right here on the business owner's cafe site! I hardly think that you could call this site a scam!

Usually when people are looking for grants for their businesses they are in need of big money. While $1500 from sources such as Idea Cafe, would no doubt come in handy, it's hardly enough to start a business. Plus the competition is unbelievable. The chance of winning such a grant is miniscule.

Funny how we never hear from your "clients" about all the grants that they've won.

Hi John,

I know a lot of restaurants use leasing companies to finance with. I used to work for a leasing company called Direct Capital. They are the only leasing company that eBay uses for their customers to lease equipment.

You can look them up online and give them a call...

Hope that helps...

Have you considered putting together a local investment group? Lawyers and doctors can be good sources. You would need to put together a package explaining how your business had performed to this point, the improvements you want to make, the performance improvement you expect and the return you are willing to pay them for their investment.
