"Indoor plant business"

I am an agriculture engineer and I am planing to open my own shop specilised in selling indoor plants and flowers and also related materials, I feel ther is interest among people here in indoor plant decoration and occasionale floral gifts. my supplier will be about 200 KM from my city and I have to bring the plants myself. I am wondering what it could be the expenses to open such business and is there any website in floral shop decoration so I can plan the look of my shop.

Abdul,

I can't help you much with the expenses especially since you expressed distance KM's...I work in miles in the U.S. which means not only are there currency differences but specific costs would differ too.

I will make one suggestion that you might not have thought of. Renting and maintaining the plants. I used rent the plants for my offices years ago and later did the same for a hotel I was turning around. We just called her the plant lady, she would come every week and water, feed, trim and talk to them or whatever you're supposed to do to keep them looking nice, and then she would rotate out some and bring in new ones to always keep a lively appearance. I don't recall what it cost but it was well worth it to me not having to deal with it. Prior to her coming in to sell me I don't think I had any plants in my office.
Good luck

Denny

Expenses for any retail shop will likely include these:

rent
utilities
advertising
payroll
supplies (everything from toilet paper to calculator paper)
racking
POS (point of sale cash register etc)
counters/tables
cooler (for the flowers)
office machines
office furniture
professional fees (accountant; lawyer)
signage
permits
taxes

As you can see, it is a very costly endeavor.
Write up your business plan so you know exactly what you will need and if you can afford to start with a brick and mortar shop.

Good luck with your plans!
