981, writing a cafe business concept
Posted by Derwall, Sun Oct-28-07 10:50 AM
hello,

I am planing to open a cafe soon and have put in an offer for a good site in my local town centre. The landlord wants me to present him with my concept... I know what I want to do which is sell lots and lots of coffee, sandwiches and crepes to anyone who is willing to pay. Somehow I don?t think this description would cut the mustard.
Im sure there will be several key points that will need to be included in my concept, therefore, I?m hoping that someone can point my in the direction of a template to follow or even some finished examples of café concepts.

You might consider picking up a copy of the book, "Martha's Rules," by Martha Stewart. (I purchased one recently at Dollar Tree.). Among her ten essential rules for entrepreneurs are whole chapters on defining your Big Idea and developing a vision statement.

Your landloard does not need to see your full business plan. You need to have one, but I would shy away from giving him any more than he is asking for (the concept).

I would purchased the One Page Business Plans for Entrepreneurs and do it. Then give him the one page.

More important, you need to quickly learn how to create a business that has a good chance of succeeding.

And check with your local and state health department to see what rules they have. For example, in my area, you can't cook unless you have an approved stove, etc.

There are also many books out there about starting a cafe; and I bet a lot of equipment being sold by the ones who don't make it === because they don't plan.
