You're going to want to check your state labor site as well because some states (and even municipalities) require a higher a minimum wage than the federal government.

Hi,

Yes, minimum wage applies no matter how many (or few) employees you have. There are five states that do not have a minimum wage (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee).

However, there is a Federal minimum wage. This minimum will go up to $5.85 on July 24th. So if you have employees in the five states mentioned above and pay minimum wage, you will need to match the Federal amount beginning on July 24th.

For most other states including Washington and Montana, their minimum wage is greater than the Federal and don't have to worry about the change.

Each state has their own stipulations for overtime and child labor so make sure you research your states regulations and comply with them.
