80, Need Help with Direct Mail
Posted by samia, Tue Oct-24-06 02:31 AM
Hi,

I will appreciate if someone can help me with building awareness and also druming up some business for my start-up. I'm thinking of direct mail however, I have read somewhere that 1 or 2 mails (mailouts) for a direct mail will not do. You need to do 3+ mails. So my question is what would be the the content of the 1st mail, 2nd mail, 3 mail etc, etc. I'm at loss of what/how since am just introducing my services. What would the introductory letter read like? Then what would the second letter read etc. etc.

Thanks in advance,

Samia

Hi Samia,
Can you please specify what is your line of business? Maybe if you provide a little bit more info someone may help you out. I am also using direct mail, maybe I'll be able to help.

Hi Samia,

What you are talking about is "Drip Marketing". You can find a plethora of resources and information on it by simply typing it into Google (or whichever search engine you use.)

I am of the opinion though that the first message, assuming it falls on the right eyes, will be as effective as the 500th. But, I will add, that I use a newsletter to "drip market" my customer base.

Hi Samia,
As for content for your direct mail piece make sure you have a strong headline to catch your reader's eye. Otherwise your potential customer may not realize you are "talking to him/her" and toss it. This should be followed by the benefits of using your services vs "Joe Movers". Direct mail also generally includes an offer for the recipient's reponse, whether it be a discount coupon for your services, or perhaps a free report on how to get ready for moving day. You can include in your mailing that if they call you they'll get the free report and the discount and then you could maybe do a little more "selling" over the phone by asking them if there is anything else you can help them with regarding their upcoming move. You can then follow up with all those that called you via phone or another mailing.
Also, have you considered approaching real estate agents? You could offer giving their referrals a discount. They are always looking for ways to "outshine" thier fellow agents and impress their clients. You could show them how relying on you to take care of their client's moving needs will enhance their reputation. Again...see how you point out the benefits?
These are just off the top of my head and hope they are helpful. Good luck.

Hello,

How are you?

Industry: Mover & Handy Man

Mover: Reaching people before the move or businesses before they move is a very hard thing to do. You are better off doing a co-op mailing with Val-Pack and reach 1000's of consumers.

To reach this target by mail, I would send to my referral partners.
Real Estate, Mortgage, Closing Attn, etc.. Same for B2B.

Get out a network like crazy!!

The first letter should explain why you are contacting them? To build a refferal partnership. Tell them what you ant them to do!! call you, email, phone. The second letter should go to the non-responders with a simular message as the first.

The people you meet networking should be added to your database and sent a month email letter on an interesting topic of choice. This will keep your name in their face monthly. Drip Marketing!!

Handy Man

Mail to the elderly and New Homeowners.
When you get a handy man job ask for referrals.

If you have any questions or want me to expand on anything, please contact me.

Thank you
