I run a errand service and am trying to drum up new clients. While shopping yesterday I found a 4X6 flyer placed on my window. Not a service I would use but liked the idea.
Has anyone out there used this type of flyer and if so who did you order from was it cost effective for your business. This flyer didn't have any small print from the printer like I'd hoped. Sure I could print out flyers and place them under the windshield wiper but with this type of sticky note it's placement is the driver side window...How great is that!
Thank you for any input.

I've never seen that (post it note type flyers) but sounds nice.
The problem with that type of advertising is littering. The driver is likely to tear it off the window and toss on the ground.

Depending on where you placed the ads (shopping center parking lots, school parking lots, train station parking lots, etc), you are probably going to get some angry phone calls or have the police chasing you down.

Hi Louise

I normally don't recommend using fliers that are placed on windshields - as previously mentioned they contribute to littering and as a business owner you don't want your business name plastered all over the town as litter blown about here & there.

Typically, the fliers placed on car windshields are seldom acted upon. Most people are coming back to their cars with their arms full and/or they're busy loading the trunk. Many times they miss the flier until they get into the driver's seat and then they're upset because now they need to get out and remove it.

The majority of the time they're crumbled up and tossed aside.

If fliers are what you want to do due to budget constraints then I recommend doing them this way.

- contact the local grocery or department store manager and ask for their permission for standing outside the store to hand out fliers.

Talk to them as a win-win solution for them. You are an errand service providing a valuable service to your clients and the bulk of your business will consist of doing business with them.

- then once permission is granted create some fliers that highlight the benefits of using your service. You need to address the problem that people have and how your service fixes their problem.

Need 28 hours in a 24 hour day?

Does this sound like you? drop off the kids at school, run Jimmy to soccer practice, take Jenny to her piano recital, pick-up groceries, get to work on time, on and on and on it repeats itself.

If only you had a couple of extra hours.

We make life "simple" by giving you more time back in your day, giving you more of your life back.

Then list the services you provide. Who wouldn't want more time out of their day? Who wouldn't want their life back?

- Hand out your fliers to everyone that comes of the store. Be ready to explain your service..."stressing how you can help them."

- Think about getting some magnetic business cards. The main things to put on your business cards are your Name, contact info whether it's a website or phone number, and your benefit statement!

These mini-fliers will get stuck on refrigerators, file cabinents, etc.

- Consider handing out fliers at baseball, soccer, football, softball fields to the parents or parent in the stands.

Hand them out to daycare centers.

Etc.

Hope this helps and gives you some insight on a better promotional strategy then fliers under a windshield.

Press on to Success!

Jeff

Another way I've seen the flyers distributed is several flyers from different businesses are placed in a see through plastic baggie and hung on home door handles. I am much more apt to stop and look through them before I toss them in the trash. They likely won't be tossed on the ground.

I agree with the last posters about littering. I know a lot of people that absolutely can't stand having things placed under their windshield wipers and I imagine they wouldn't be too happy with this either, and just rip it off, throw it on the ground, and not bother looking at it. Undoubtedly you would get some interested people. But I think overall it would be very hit or miss. I think you should take the time to find out who you're ideal client is, and then think of ways to start appealing to that target market (do they watch a lot of TV, listen to radio, read the paper, use email?) Once you know this you can find the best media to advertise to them in, whether it be a radio ad, or a direct mail campaign. You could also start a referral program with your current clients by having a small vacation package or some electronic items, whatever it may be, just some small prizes to give away in a contest to either the person who refers the most people over a 3 month period, or everyone who refers a new customer over a 3 month period gets entered into this contest. You could also partner up with another local business that would tie into your business and promote their business to your clients if they promote your business to theirs. This could be a grocery store, or any other type of business where people who use your service would get a discount at this certain store (bringing that store more business) and at the same time people who go to this store would be made aware of a special deal they get with your service by being a customer of that certain store (bringing more business to you).

Just a few ideas here, all the best to you,
Curtis

Hello Louise,

I happen to be one of those promotional advertising people who sells those 4 X 6 self-adhesive note - Actually Post-It(R) Notes from 3M, Sticky Notes from Bic, and SpiderTax by Bebco.

These are only 78 cents apiece, with 25 printed sheets per pad. The minimum order is 500 pads, so you'd have 12,500 pre-printed ads, ready to stick on cars, homes, and just about anywhere else you want you message to be seen.

With Bic, 4 colors of ink are included, as are logos, with no set-up charges. You can also get these printed as 4-color process, which is how they achieve full-color images - No extra charge.
