Twitter, Facebook and Youtube are the best sites to start with. :-)

Quality inbound links are essential for traffic and good pagerank. Note they should be one way and only from quality sites with relevant content (not reciprocal) eg. submit to directories with high page rank, and write articles.

PS - re paid advertising, Google Adwords using less competitive "long tail keywords" eg. instead of just plain "business cards" which is incredibly competitive, I might use "business card printing Melbourne" or "matt business cards 420gsm"

One of the best ways to promote your business and connect with companies looking for your service is to set up pages on several different social networks. LinkedIn is a social network for businesses and small companies to connect. Facebook is an awesome one because you not only can have a profile promoting your services but you can also make a fan page which can do wonders for getting the word out. Check out those two plus fastpitch networking, youtube, and of course twitter. More and more businesses are going to these social medias because it gives them a presence online and its cost effective. I hope I was able to help some.

Good Luck

Hi-

I own an Online Marketing agency, Agent-cy (see www.agent-cy.com) that helps small businesses grow online. Oddly enough, I have both worked with JDate and Celebrifantasy as clients and can definitely help, based on what you need. In both cases it takes lots of good content creation, events and online press. Send me an e-mail detailing what you have done that has and hasnt worked and maybe I can give you some quick insight there: jsandler@agent-cy.com. Beyond that, if you want help from us, we can arrange.

Thank you.

I agree with the other commenter. You need content, you need article marketing and you need social media. I would first focus on getting your site populated with content. I noticed there are essentially no messages on the message board.

Find volunteers, or hire people to make comments and start discussions there.

Site Content: Keep regular, original, and frequently updated content coming to the site in the form of articles and blogs.

Article Marketing: Buy or write articles to put on article marketing sites

After you get those things established you can begin with social media, but honestly until your site is well populated with content you might not want to bother with social media. I mean people will say that you should, and you should, but concentrate on one or two things and get them done then move on.

Now if you can afford to outsource all of this:

Content both on and off site -three to five blogs /articles a week on site, and two to five off site per week.
Social media - regular updates when you really have something to say
Newsletter LIST - use PPC to get your list built, offer something free like an online dating tips ebook or ereport
Offline Marketing - Press releases

Then yea, do it all.......

Offer free, original, and quality content on your site. This is the most effective means for increasing traffic to a website; offering people something that they cannot obtain elsewhere, or at least, not to the level of quality that you are offering it.

Using classifieds to get posted on the first page of Google for your particular business can be a quick and fast way of gaining instant traffic and exposure. Backpage, oodle and olx seem to get listed to the first page of Google quickly. Give it a try. We have good luck using this technique.

To Your Success,
Julie

Forums are a great place to start, in addition to blog commenting and article marketing. These are free and the results could be excellent.

There is a network that you can join that would give you the type of exposure you want. If you send me your email, I will gladly send you an invite to the sites and you can join. Just so that your aware, I get nothing from these sites to invite people to join. I only send invites to join to people that show an interest in true networking and not people that are going to waste my time or put a blemish on my reputation. you can send your email to me at naima@eastcoastgreenenergy.net and put ideacafe in the subject line.

I would suggest holding a contest and posting it on several linky websites:

This is low cost advertising and you can get alot of people to sign up to your free online dating website.

Hello. We are a team of Marketing Majors from Bryant University, and we have some advice to offer. One main area to work on would be your Facebook page for your dating website. Many young users who utilize dating sites are also on Facebook. Your page is somewhat empty. Try to encourage members of your dating site to "Like" the corresponding Facebook page and have them make comments about their success on the site. You can use the page to advertise new additions to the website or upcoming events. Also, a Twitter page where your website members can again share their successes would be beneficial. You could also encourage members to invite friends by offering small rewards per person gained.

For your gossip site, see if you can get magazines like Glamour or Cosmopolitan to post advertisements on their web pages. Again, an active Facebook page and Twitter feed can help draw in more people. On Twitter, you can post catchy tag lines and direct interested parties to your site to find out the whole story.

For both sites, e-newsletters can help keep your members up-to-date and reminded about the existence of your site.

Sincerely,
Dynamic Consulting
