808, Trying to write a book
Posted by pianomomma, Sun Feb-25-07 05:37 PM
I have been a teacher in a specific field for several years and I have yet to find the perfect curriculum for the type of children I teach so i pretty much created my own book, worksheets, and instructional manual. I know it works well because it has been tested on my own students.
I would like to know how to market this book (I am trying to market it to music teachers and homeschooling parents) and how to properly copyright my pages, idea, drawings, worksheets, etc..
Publishing is not really that big of deal because it's just a small notebook that I print up myself but I would like to offer it to others for a price. This is VERY, VERY part time for me as I am a SAHM + homeschooling mom and only work a few hours per week so I am not looking to make a ton of money at this. Basically just need to know the legalities of selling an instructional book.
Thanks,
Heather in Colorado

Hi Heather,

I've written a few books (you can find the link to one of them at the bottom of this post), but have never written instructional materials like these. My gut instinct is that you should contact home schooling textbook publishers and see if they would be interested in having you work with them. They would do all the publishing, and you could provide the instructional materials. It might work out very nicely for you -- and I've heard that companies like that can pay well.

Please let us know what happens!
Take care,
Christina
